The following list of current and past projects in the field of solar cooling was compiled to help you find interesting information. It does not claim to be complete and is to be continued*.
SOLAIR (2007-2009, Intelligent Energy Europe) aims mainly at capacity building, promotion and influencing the process of decision making for the implementation of small and medium-sized solar air-conditioning systems in the residential and commercial sector. The set of activities and tools developed includes the organisation of trainings and roundtables as well as the compilation of an online available database of best practice examples.
SOLCO (2007-2008, Intelligent Energy Europe) - Removal of non-technological barriers to Solar Cooling technology across southern European islands. The Members of project cluster are from southern European islands, where during summer ideal conditions are offered for the exploitation of solar energy and solar cooling devices.
IEA SHC Task38 (2006-2011) “Solar Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration” is a four years project within the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling program which brings together the expertise of more than 50 partners from 11 countries in order to bring forward international research and development on solar air-conditioning system with focus on improved components and system concepts.
HIGH COMBI (2007-2011, FP6) develops high solar fraction systems by an innovative combination of optimized solar heating, cooling and storage technologies and realizes four demonstration plants (Greece, Italy, Austria, Spain) using different combination of technologies, components and control strategies.
MEDISCO (2006-2009, FP6) - MEDiterranean food and agro Industry applications of Solar COoling technologies. The project aims to develop, test and optimize solar thermally driven cooling concepts for the food and agro industry in the Mediterranean region, which under local conditions can result economically and socially sustainable.
REACT (2006-2008, FP6) - Self-sufficient Renewable Energy Air-Conditioning system for Mediterranean countries. The project aims to set-up innovative pilot RES-based plants (heat and air conditioning), to be used in specific environments, i.e. private or public medium- or large-sized facilities (hospitals, tourist resorts, etc.) in highly sun-irradiated Mediterranean Countries.
ROCOCO (2004-2008, FP6) analysed as a Specific Support Action for the 6th Framework Programme of the European Commission the cost-competitiveness of solar cooling technology and how future RTD can lead to more market competitive solutions.
SACE (2002-2003, FP5) - Solar Air Conditioning in Europe. The man objectives of the project, were an analysis of the solar cooling market and its potential and the promotion of promising technologies. Inter alia a fast and easy-to-handle computer tool to study the feasibility of using solar thermal energy for building air conditioning was developed (which can be downloaded from the website).
CLIMASOL (2003-2005, ALTENER) was conducted to promote solar cooling and air-conditioning through a state of the art analysis and promotional measures. The project addressed specifically cooling systems of various sizes and promoted an integrative approach for cooling demand in tertiary buildings (new and retrofitting). Results have been elaborated in a brochure, which is available for download.
IEA SHC Task 25 (1999-2004) “Solar Assited Air Conditioning of Buildings” was a five years project within the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling program which brought together the expertise of 25 partners from 12 countries. Results include a database of realised solar cooling systems worldwide, the computer design tool SOLAC and the very successful handbook for planners „Solar Assisted Air-Conditioning of Buildings”.
